Rallying democracy through nonviolent direct action.
The Human Liberty Project is a nonprofit employing a research-backed, legally-grounded, and outcomes-oriented approach to preserving democracy in the face of authoritarian creep.

About
Human Liberty Project
We are preserving democracy by empowering its constituents to use lawful, nonviolent civil resistance to authoritarians.

The Problem: Authoritarianism, Worldwide.
According to international nonprofit Freedom House, democracy has declined worldwide for the past few decades.
International experts now believe that the United States, long considered a champion of global democracy, is witnessing the authoritarian playbook being deployed against itself.
A world with more authoritarianism will be more dangerous and less free.
And we refuse to accept that.

Our Approach
Authoritarians often corrupt essential democratic mechanisms such as voting, which prevents the expression of the people’s will. If the people cannot express their policy preferences through traditional means, then nonviolent civil resistance becomes an essential route to preserving democracy — for strategic and moral reasons.
Peaceful public demonstrations that surface grievances, create visibility, and build community
Boycotts harness consumer power by impacting the bottom line of businesses that support authoritarian policies.
Strikes allow workers to demonstrate their power by withholding labor from essential economic functions.
Visual projections, songs, and other art forms provide creative and unexpected methods to resist.
